Overview

The Technical Writer creates clear, concise and user-friendly documentation that helps audiences understand complex products, processes or systems. This role collaborates with subject matter experts, engineers, product teams and designers to gather information and translate technical concepts in accessible content. A strong Technical Writer maintains consistent documentation standards, ensures accuracy through research and review, and continuously updates materials as products evolve.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Plan, organize, and write easy to understand technical literature including repair instructions, product advisements, and equipment install and service manuals for all audiences. 
  • Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy literature and manuals. 
  • Organize and maintain library of technical literature.
  • Update and revise current material to maintain continuity.
  • Plan, write, develop, organize, and edit video scripts while working with video team to develop and film technical videos.
  • Self-discipline with the ability to plan, schedule, organize, monitor, and administer various projects concurrently to meet schedules.
  • Analyze information and evaluate all options to achieve the best solutions to various design challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, English or similar field required.
  • Two or more years of related experience required.
  • Must have technical writing background.
  • Experience with procedural writing.
  • Experience in document design (theories / practices).
  • Knowledge of SOP for technical writing.
  • Experience with style guides (maintain / create) including templates.
  • Experience in proofing (copy writing / editing).
  • Experience in photography and photo editing.
  • Experience with project tracking software.
  • Experience with version control.
  • Experience and very good grasp of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience and very good grasp of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Must excel in prioritization and multi-tasking.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have experience in maintaining document standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and on collaborative projects and take direction from more experienced designers and leaders.
  • Qualified candidate must have excellent communications skills. Position requires working as team member of internal multifunctional teams. Also includes working individually with many internal teams outside of the service department (technical Illustrators, regulatory representatives, Media Design / IT, web design, video teams) and working with outside customers and vendors.

The hours for this position are 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
