Overview

The Robotics and Automation Engineer is a key role as part of the Production Engineering Team. This Engineering Co-op will help drive improvements through automation and the continuous implementation of robotics throughout the company working with the Robotics/Automation Team.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Work as a member of the cross functional support team for automated equipment.
  • Help identify the root cause of machine issues and product quality concerns; work with operators, tool room, and/or manufacturers to develop and implement solutions.
  • Develop and implement new processes and technologies to improve operator safety, product quality and efficiency.
  • Develop ideas for improvements in assembly or fabrication by utilizing robotics and other automation systems.
  • Use the data from tracking performance to implement changes to improve results.
  • Develop training documents for operators, identify skills needed of operators.
  • Work with operators and supervisors to meet or exceed safety, quality and production metrics.
  • Work in a lean environment to continuously improve manufacturing processes.
  • Create and update production area layouts using ACAD, Solidworks, and 3D Create Simulation software.
  • Overall support for the Robotics/Automation team.
  • Regular and reliable attendance in the office is required.

Qualifications

  • Full time student, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechatronics and/or robotics preferred, but will consider Industrial, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
  • Sheet metal fabrication/Assembly Line experience helpful.  
  • Experience with robotics and automation preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access or ability to learn.
  • A student currently in their junior or senior year is preferred.
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead people, obtain commitment from team members, and achieve results through others.
  • Ability to be assertive and diplomatic when interacting with co-workers.
  • Positive attitude, team player, and supports the direction and policies of the Company.
  • Ability to think ahead, set daily and weekly goals, and create action plans to achieve results. 
  • Ability to multi-task and follow up on all open issues.
  • Be the “support” mechanism for the internal customers.
  • Proficient with ACAD, Solidworks, and Microsoft Office.
The duration of this co-op is January to August, 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
