Overview

The Packaging Engineering Co-op will work with the Packaging Engineer to design and maintain protective packaging for commercial refrigerators, design internal packaging components, test new packaging materials, and troubleshoot packaging issues for the production lines. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design protective packaging for commercial refrigerators to ensure product integrity under varying shipping and storage conditions.
  • Test, analyze and select materials for packaging based on durability cost effectiveness.
  • Generate cost saving ideas while maintaining superb product performance.
  • Create engineering drawings and specifications for new products.
  • Advise company on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and new equipment proposals.
  • Work with Purchasing and outside suppliers to test and approve various tapes for packaging, production improvements, and cost savings.
  • Confer with vendors, internal customers, and the management team regarding purchases, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
  • Deliver quality engineering solutions to internal and external customers.
  • Participate on a cross functional team to find and correct issues.
  • Work closely with line leaders to troubleshoot daily production line issues.
  • Analyze competitor packaging.
  • Have a basic level of understanding of the Protective Packaging environment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance in the office is required.

Qualifications

  • Full time student, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in packaging, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management or similar field required.
  • A student currently in their junior or senior year is preferred.
  • Experience designing packaging using corrugated, EPS, and other materials preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to be assertive and diplomatic when interacting with co-workers and factory team members.
  • Positive attitude, upbeat, detail oriented, team player and supportive of the direction and policies of the company.
  • Ability to think ahead, set daily and weekly goals and create action plans to achieve results.
  • Ability to multitask and follow up on all open issues in a fast-paced environment.

 

The duration of this co-op is January to August, 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
